While crime is slowly going down all across Australia, there is still a wide variety of crimes that are quite common, and at the top of that list is theft. Due to this, both commercial and residential property owners have looked for ways to secure their property for almost as long as there has been property to protect in Australia. Numerous trends of home and business security have come and gone in that time, but one feature of security has remained constant and is still the best first line of defence against any unwanted intruder: a fence. Fencing has come a long way since its early days, however, and today, a sturdy, metal-clad fence is at the forefront of home and business security for a reason.

What Is Metal-Clad Fencing?

Metal-clad fencing is just the proper term for metal fences, 'clad' being an older term meaning to clothe or cover something. Metal-clad fences are usually taller than most fences and are usually made of steel. In fact, it is often called steel-clad fencing because of how common steel is in this area of fencing. Metal-clad fences can be solid metal panels, metal bars or a combination of both, depending on your requirements.

What Is Better About Metal-Clad Fencing Than Other Fences?

Metal-clad fencing is better than fencing made from other materials for a number of reasons:

  • Security: The other popular type of material used to create fences is timber, which is subject to much easier attacks than metal. Fire, melee attacks and simple, forceful pushes can often bring down sections of timber fences. Metal-clad fencing, on the other hand, is much more resistant to these entry-level types of attacks.
  • Durability: Metal-clad fencing, when installed well, is much more resistant to environmental exposure than timber. Also, once you set your metal-clad fencing up, there is generally not a lot of maintenance needed, which makes these types of fences ideal for busy homes and businesses.
  • Aesthetically pleasing: Metal-clad fencing provides a single, uniform look to the exterior of your property. It also provides you with a lot of privacy and keeps your property from the prying eyes of any nosy neighbours.

How To Choose The Right Metal-Clad Fencing

Clearly, metal-clad fencing is the best and most modern way to create a first line of defence against would-be intruders, but how do you choose from the many contractors that offer similar products? The most important thing is to figure out what the requirements are for your property, which means sitting down and writing down a list of needs. This should include things like how many points of entry you need (whether for foot traffic or for cars to enter), how tall you need it to be, what pattern you want, whether high winds are going to be a problem and whether you need to get bars instead of panels. Once you figure out a comprehensive list, then you simply cross off any businesses that cannot meet your requirements and get a quote from those that can. Remember, don't be pulled into the first deal you get — look around and you have a better chance of finding a great deal.
